How To Drain A Bestway Pool
Don’t let the end of summer bring your fun to an end. Keep your Bestway pool from going to waste and keep it ready for action all year round by following these simple steps. If you have one of those above ground swimming pools, known as a “Bestway”, then you can drain it before storing it away for winter.
Bestway pools are easy to set up and are a great way to enjoy the summer weather. However, if the pool is not drained properly, it can cause damage to the pool and surrounding area.
Draining the water will not only help you store it more compactly until springtime but also protect the liner from damage and make cleaning easier. Let’s see how…
How To Drain A Bestway Pool
What you will need
- Flat-nosed pliers
- A hammer and a big nail
- A pool skimmer net
- Goggles
- A bucket and a hose
- Sturdy footwear
Step 1: Close the filter
If you have a pressure-filter, close the valve and make sure all the water has stopped flowing. If you have a sand filter, completely drain the water from the filter.
Step 2: Turn off the pump and filter
Turn off the pump and the filter. You will find the valve for the pump either at the back or side of the pool. Tilt the filter lid to find the valve.
Step 3: Drain the water using the drain hose
Make a hole in the side of the pool and attach the hose. Run it to a nearby drain or down a slope so that the water flows away from your house. There is a plug on the bottom of the pool that you can open up to let the water flow out more quickly. Let the water flow out until the pool is almost empty.
Step 4: Roll up the hosing
Leave the hose in the pool while you roll up the rest of the hosing.
Step 5: Drain the remaining water using a bucket
Make another hole in the bottom of the pool, this time using a screwdriver or a knife. Pour a bucket of water down into the pool, making sure to leave no air pockets.
Step 6: Store it away
Remove the plug from the bottom of the pool and close the hose. Let the water drain out completely before storing away.
Conclusion
Finally, cover the pool with a protective cover or tarpaulin and store it in a dry, sheltered area. The pool can then be used again next summer. However, the liner and the pump should be cleaned and disinfected before you use it again.
Keep in mind that draining and storing your pool will prevent algae from growing over the winter. It will also protect your pump and filter from rusting and your liner from damage.
